The most interesting aspect of this survey is that Emergency Physicians felt that it was the primary care doctors responsibility to follow up on actionable findings. Whereas the radiologist thought it should be the doctor that ordered the exam. So there is a serious gap identified here. The, ” I thought someone else was taking care of it”, problem.
Perhaps the solution to the problem is to make the radiologist responsible for ensuring that the recommended follow up meets an appropriate final disposition.
Furthermore, 86% of Radiologists thought they had a tracking system in place for this when only 25% of them actually did.
Only 10% of Emergency departments did.
